Training
The course “Initiation to Ion probe” taught in the Master ELSTE (UNIL-UNIGE) has been replaced by a full week of lectures and practices known as the SIMS WinterSchool, which first took place from January 16th to 20th, 2022. This SIMS WinterSchool is open to ELSTE Master students, PhD students and possibly postdoctoral fellows.
Conferences
Once every two years since 2018, the SwissSIMS lab organizes a day of talks and posters presenting the results obtained by SIMS. The latest edition of the SwissSIMS day was on June 24th, 2022.
Previous Events
SwissSIMS Workshop 2023

In July 2023, in conjunction with the Goldschmidt conference held in Lyon, we hosted a
two-day Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS and NanoSIMS) workshop at UNIL
(https://wp.unil.ch/workshopsims/). The international workshop drew the participation of 55
on-site registrants and 7 online attendees, with free participation for students and researchers
from UNIL. Throughout the event, eight distinguished speakers hailing from Japan, Korea,
Germany, France, Switzerland, and Sweden delivered insightful lectures on various topics,
showcasing the novel perspectives and valuable insights provided by SIMS. Additionally, the
SwissSIMS team arranged a laboratory tour, leaving a lasting impression on participants with
the cutting-edge facilities housed at CASA.
SwissSIMS WinterSchool 2023

In January 2023, the SwissSIMS hosted the inaugural SwissSIMS WinterSchool, spanning a
week. The event garnered success, drawing 35 participants globally, comprising 3 Master’s
students, 25 Ph.D. students, 3 postdoctoral researchers, 2 researchers, and 2 newly appointed
Cameca application engineers. The WinterSchool offered a comprehensive program featuring
lectures on SIMS theory and diverse applications. Notably, two invited experts in SIMS,
Etienne Deloule from CRPG, Nancy, and Cees-Jan de Hoog from the University of Edinburgh,
delivered insightful lectures among the program’s highlights.
